Murphy at 8 weeks old
Helen writes:-
After spending months looking for the perfect dog,
we were eventually guided into the direction of Sue Phillips,
whose bitch Ghost was due to have a litter of pups. I hit it off
with Sue the moment I spoke to her on the phone and she kept me
up to date with how Ghosts pregnancy was progressing.
After the pups were born, photo's arrived weekly via email and
I knew it was real, we were to have our puppy.
At 5 weeks we visited, we couldn't chose a pup there and then,
but I had already said I didn't mind if it was a dog or bitch.
At 12 weeks off we set from Bushey, nr Watford, Hertfordshire,
up the M1 to Chesterfield, about a 2 hour journey.
We collected our boy, Ladygrove Phantom, whom we called Murphy.
Before Murphy we had owned several Lurchers (Deerhound X type)
raced Greyhounds and kept the odd Terrier.
From the moment Murphy came home he was loved. He was mischievous
to say the least, chewing several pairs of shoes, handbags, designer
sunglasses, he has expensive tastes (He's not called a Deerhound
for nothing). He is nosey, inquisitive, thinks that anybody we
come across on our walks is out purely to see him!
I never had any aspirations to show him, but was told that it
is great fun, so off we went on cold, frosty January morning in
2006. We were bitten by the bug and have now entered 9 shows this
year.
I have been told that he is a nice looking dog, and maybe with
the right owner he could do well in the show ring, but we persevere
and enjoy our day out. He qualified for Crufts at East of England
Champ show for March 2008.
